On the 16th March we begin the commemorative season in celebration of 701 Years of Cutlery manufacture in Sheffield.

Located in the industrial heartland of the North of England, Sheffield has maintained a unique association with the steel industry, despite the erosion of heavy industries that has occurred in the post-industrial age.

The stamp features a classic post-war fork, as supplied to countless local authorities and government departments across the former British Empire.

Visitors to Sheffield during the period 16th March 1998 - 25 April 1998 will be able to view the world's largest digital stamp which will adhere to the Post Office at Fitzalan Square, carrying the above design.

This is with the kind permission of Post Office Counters Ltd.
